William Thomas Main, 78, passed away on July 11, 2019 at Washoe Memorial in Reno, NV. William (Bill, Willy) was born in Harlem, Montana on February 2, 1941 to Elmer Main and Ruth Rienhart (nee Olson), and is survived by many brothers and sisters. His spirit lives on in his daughter, Shelly; his three grandchildren: Malinda (Shaun), Anthony, and Catherine (Matthew); and his six great-grandchildren: Katelynn, Anikyn, Arabelle, Nathaniel, Aiden and Jace. Not to be forgotten are friends too numerous to count, who all shared in Bill’s kind-hearted, loving spirit.
Bill attended college in Bozeman Montana, with a focus on business administration. He enlisted in the army in 1962, where he was decorated as a Sharpshooter and received an honorable discharge. He made his home in Spokane, Washington for many years, where his daughter and two of his grandchildren were born. Bill never missed an opportunity to take his grandchildren out to River Front park, for a ride on the gondola and to feed the garbage goat. He devoted his life to helping others – volunteering at the VA, driving his elderly neighbors to appointments, and spending time with his family. He loved his mother dearly, and he made trips back to Montana to visit her frequently. In 2004, Bill moved to Reno, where he spent his final years. His son-in-law, Joseph Hayes, and granddaughter Mindy visited Bill frequently, and it was in Reno that Bill met his future grandson-in-law Shaun for the first time. He was so happy to welcome Shaun into his family. Everyone who was part of his life in Reno knew of his sweet disposition and his beautiful singing voice. He listened with his whole heart and thought deeply. He understood the importance of making the most out of every moment and was an expert at finding happiness in small joys. He loved watching birds, steak, and coloring pictures. He loved people and was loved by many in return.
